TV Funeral Ceremony Imitates Real One - Set of RIZZOLI AND ISLES
An Extra who was on the set of an episode filmed for the new season of TNT popular scripted show “Rizzoli and Isles” talked about being on the set for a very poignant scene in honor of lead actor Lee Thompson Young who played “Detective Barry Frost”.
"The surreal part of this episode began when I was on set to play a "detective" the day Young didn’t show up for work on the show. I was geared up, badge, gun and the whole nine when the reason we were not shooting that day unfolded…
Fast-forward to a few months later, when I got the call that I was to play a “Boston Police Department brass” on “Rizzoli and Isles.” When I got to set, and dressed up, I realized that I was going to a “funeral,” the one for Young’s character. The programs handed out during the “ceremony” were even, I learned later, copies of the ones from the actual funeral for Young. The whole event was a somber one, and even though I probably got some substantial camera time – being seated directly behind Lorraine Bracco (a makeup artist even touched me up, since I was seated there) – I didn’t get a sense of the usual joviality that is present on a set. Folks are working, and (for the most part) glad to be there. Getting a job in Hollywood is a job in itself, let me tell you…”
The fifth season of Rizzoli & Isles premieres June 17 at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
